Newborn photoshoot FAQs

Answers to some more commonly asked questions about your newborn photoshoot.

If you have a questions not answered here dont hestiate to get in touch.

  • Q. How old should my baby be for the newborn photoshoot?
    A. In an ideal world, it is best to do newborn photography sessions in the first 14 days after birth as this is the time when your baby is most chilled out and sleepy, allowing me to gently and safely pose them. However an ideal world is not always realistic! I’m very happy to do a later photoshoot and I still get gorgeous images of older babies but they can be much more alert so its often harder to capture those squishy newborn poses or your session may take a little longer.
  • Q. Is newborn photography safe for my baby?
    A. Completely. I have been trained in the art of safely posing newborns and your baby’s safety and comfort are my biggest concerns at all times. It’s also really important to me that the parents are comfortable with what I’m doing so I’m very happy to answer any questions you may have to help put your mind at ease, either in advance or on the day. I’ve photographed hundreds of newborns and have regular training to maintain my skills.
  • Q. When do I book my newborn photography session?
    A. I recommend booking a photoshoot when you’ve had your 20 week scan so I can get you pencilled in around your due date. I get very booked up so forward planning is key! I am well aware that my newborn clients aren’t always great at planning their arrival to my timetable and I’ll be flexible if your little one decides to make an early or a late entrance! After you’re booked in, just let me know when your new arrival makes an appearance and we can firm up the time and date then. That said, if you have come across my work later in your pregnancy or even when your little one has arrived, please do get in touch to see if I have late availability as I will do my best to try and fit you in.
  • Q. What can I expect for my newborn shoot?
    A. Before your session: Prior to your session, once baby has been born and we have secured a date for your newborn photoshoot, I will send you detailed information and instructions of what to expect on the day and some tips to take into account before you arrive. This is part of the process of making you feel comfortable and prepared. As part of my discovery process, we can discuss any colour preferences and styling to allow me to set up and get prepared before meeting you and your baby on the day. During your session: I will capture your baby in a variety of different poses and set ups. After your session you will be able to view your baby’s gallery where to choose from a selection of prints, wall art and digital files depending on which digital package you chosen. With all my newborn sessions, I offer complimentary mummy and baby shots if desired. If you would like to include siblings and other family members, I am very happy to accommodate this as an add on to your booking and it can all take place as part of the same session, please mention this at the time of booking. See here for more about my newborn packages and prices. After your session: Following your photoshoot you will be able to view your full gallery of beautiful images. You will also have the option to buy professionally printed beautiful wall art in different sizes and formats for you to share and treasure forever.
